What Rules Do Student Passwords Need to Follow?

Note: This is only applicable to Secondary Students.

1. Passwords must have an 8-character minimum.

2. It must include at least 3 of the following:

  • A Capital letter
  • A Lowercase letter
  • A number
  • A symbol

3. New passwords cannot be any of your last 4 passwords and are prompted for change every 12 months from the day you set it.

4. Use a strong password.

It is critical to utilize a strong password for your district accounts. A strong password ensures no one can guess your password to gain unauthorized access to district resources.

5. Don't Use Your Name in Your Password!

The system will prevent you from creating a new password if the password includes your first or last name.

Remember, password security is your responsibility!

Tips for creating a strong password:

  • Use passwords that are not based on dictionary words.
  • Include special characters and numbers.
  • Use upper and lowercase characters.
  • While it is important not to use short passwords, it can be easier to remember a phrase rather than random characters (eg: !WishWeatherWasN1c3r).
  • Do not use the same password for District and non-District sites.
  • Never give or share your password with anyone.

What Makes Passwords Vulnerable?

Using information that is easily guessed by someone else.

This includes:

  • A student ID
  • Date of birth
  • Friends' names
  • Friends' birthdays
  • Phone numbers
  • Names of pets

Other easy-to-guess passwords are commonly chosen passwords such as "Password", "Poudre123", "PSD123", "qwerty123", "asdfg", "123456".

Please reach out to your school for further assistance including password resets, format, and more.
